An industry that cuts pattern pieces from fabric to make garments. The stage just before cutting — Marker Making — is a classic application of 2D Irregular Nesting, laying irregular pattern pieces tightly within the fabric width. Unlike other industries, a grain-line constraint usually fixes each piece's rotation, and matching stripes or checks adds further constraints. Fabric is a large share of cost, so even a 1–2% utilization gain matters economically.
